IP Management Company (RF) Proprietary Limited (‘IPMC’) hereby advises investors and prospective investors to exercise caution when being solicited to make investments via social media and, in particular, WhatsApp groups.
IPMC has been made aware of a WhatsApp Group that has been created by unknown individuals where the intellectual property of IPMC and the investment manager concerned has been infringed and used to create the impression of legitimacy, with the perceived objective of sourcing confidential and personal information, as well as inducing the WhatsApp group members into making payments into a bank account that is not linked to either IPMC or the investment manager concerned.
This WhatsApp group is in no way associated with either of IPMC or the investment manager concerned. Existing and prospective investors are urged to contact IPMC directly for verification and provision of published documentation. IPMC does not request client personal details via WhatsApp groups or other forms of social media.
IPMC has, via the WhatsApp group, served a cease and desist notification of the promoters and administrators thereof, whilst the investment manager concerned is engaging with the relevant social media platform and the authorities in an effort to combat this behaviour.
However, the nature of these platforms is such that the behaviour is impossible to eliminate and clients should thus be extremely cautious.
